Meet Avondale's New Principal

Avondale welcomes Matt Gagnon as its new principal for the upcoming school year. With a rich background in education and a commitment to student success, Matt brings a wealth of experience and a passion for building a supportive school community.

Matt Gagnon's journey in education began as a Career Technical High School Teacher at Lake High School, where he dedicated six years to shaping young minds. In 2009, he joined Plain Local Schools as a School Counselor at Oakwood Middle School, marking the start of his impactful career within the district. Over the years, he served in various roles including School Counselor at GlenOak High School and as Freshman Academy Principal, before becoming Assistant Principal at Oakwood, where he spent the last seven years fostering student growth and development.

As he prepares for his new role at Avondale, Matt is keeping busy with home projects, cherishing moments with family and friends, and focusing on personal health and wellness. His dedication to professional growth is evident as he engages in LETRS training and finds inspiration in motivational literature.

Family holds a special place in Matt's life. He is rooted in Canton, where his father John and stepmom Stacey reside, and maintains close ties with his brother Chris and sister-in-law Missy in Louisville, KY. With extended family across New England, Matt values the importance of community and connection.

Looking Forward to the 2024-2025 school year, Mr. Gagnon shared "I am looking forward to working to support the Avondale students, staff, and families," shares Matt enthusiastically. "I am very excited to build relationships and provide service to others. My goal is to make ALL students feel safe, loved, and valued. I look forward to being part of the amazing traditions and events important to the Avondale community, while working to build a culture of HEART for others!"
